Representative Ed Brooks, a Republican from Reedsburg, visited the WRJC studios on Tuesday morning. He talked about issues that had been through the state Assembly; the state’s projected surplus plans, such as tax cuts and creating funds for job training, and a gas exemption for farmers. With the funds for job training, Brooks said that Governor Scott Walker proposed putting $35 million for grants to help technical schools.“This reassigns some of the money going out to state vocational districts. Some of it may go to a craft union that trains craftsmen in certain skills, but also we really got a lot of diversity out there as far as vocational training,” said Brooks. ” There’s some school districts in high school where they can take credits through an internship and eventually tie that together with a vocational district and when they graduate, they’re either ready for the work force or they have some credits ahead as they go into whatever school they’re going to.”  Brooks also said the Assembly passed a bill that gave a three-year exemption for gas tax for farmers. He said previously farmers had to file for the exemption every year. “ What we did is we changed it to a three year exemption, so every three years, farmers will have to file for the exemption,” said Brooks. ”It will reduce the paperwork by a third. Again, most suppliers are quite relieved of that because it’s a matter of making sure they have the right documentation for what they were doing and that sort of thing.” Brooks said that the gas tax exemption now moves to the state Senate and it has to pass in the Senate for Governor Walker can sign it into law.
