A Baraboo man is accused of providing the drugs that killed a man last July. 35-year-old Kirk Knight was charged with first degree reckless homicide last Friday. According to the criminal complaint, Knight allegedly delivered the heroin that killed 41-year-old Andy Wingard of Baraboo at the Edge O’ Dells Campground on July 12. Also in the complaint, Baraboo authorities said that Wingard had purchased heroin in the past from Knight and witnesses who were at the campground that night had seen them at about the same time. Another thing listed was that on August 6, a person who claimed to know Knight and Wingard told authorities that he or she had a conversation with Knight. During this conversation, Knight told the person that he had given a syringe of heroin to Wingard, but he didn’t “shoot him up”, and he didn’t think anything of it because he and Wingard “had gotten high so many times before” and he “was not about to go into the cops and incriminate himself.” Then on August 25, the Wisconsin Crime laboratory in Madison confirmed a syringe that was recovered from Wingard’s pocket contained his DNA and the needle contained both the victim’s and Knight’s DNA. Knight had a warrant out for his arrest, and was arrested in Madison Saturday morning.
