On October 17, 2014 information was supplied to the Tomah Police Department that a subject was seen wearing a white mask carrying a sign saying “Wake Up America”. Along with this information it was reported that the back side of the sign indicated “Watch what I do.” Additionally one report indicated that the person was carrying a knife while carrying the sign. The person made no threats toward students, our schools, or anyone in the community.
After interviewing several people that saw him it was determined that the sign did not have anything on the back of it and, although one person reported seeing a knife, numerous others reported seeing or speaking with him and reported not seeing a knife.
As a precaution the Tomah School District notified their schools to be on greater alert for any suspicious behavior. Students remained inside the buildings most of the afternoon.
At approximately 3:30 p.m. a caller reported seeing this subject and provided his location. Members of the Tomah Police Department located the subject and spoke with him. It was determined that he was not carrying any weapons nor was he a danger to the community. The subject indicated he was trying to bring light to the events that were happening around our nation.
