The Mauston Board of Education certified the 2015 tax levy at its monthly meeting last Monday night. The 2015 tax levy was set at $7,861,709, which is a $502,897 decrease from last year. There was also a decrease in the mil rate. Business Manager Julie Lankey-Smallwood said, “This year is the first year in six years that property value are up, by 3.8%. That’s good news because the more value you have, the lower the mil rate.” The district’s mil rate decreased from $13.43 per $1,000 to $12.15 per $1,000, a difference of $1.28. The district’s mil rate is determined by dividing the total tax levy by the fall property values.
