In a full gymnasium, Mauston High School helped celebrate Veterans Day Tuesday morning. The program started with a tribute video, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of the National Anthem. The welcome was done by Mauston High School Principal Jim Dillin in which he stated that Veterans Day was a day to celebrate veterans and to thank them for their service. Joe Jaeggi from American Legion Post 2114 in Mauston gave the opening remarks. He said, “We remember on this day the men and women who have set aside their civilian lives to service their nation’s cause.”A student speaker, Senior Eli Kolb, gave a speech to give insight on what it is like to live life with a family member in the military overseas. The Mauston Concert Choir, along with the Mauston High School Jazz band helped honor the veterans with select numbers that were playing during the program: “Salute to America’s Finest” and “An American Celebration”. The Wisconsin National Guard Military Funeral Honors Team representatives gave a moving presentation on how they would give a tribute to a fallen soldier’s family. The guest speaker was Brigadier General Mark Anderson from the Wisconsin National Guard. He said it was an honor to represent veterans who have taken an oath to honor and protect this nation. He also talked about Wisconsin’s representation throughout history in the conflicts this country has seen. Jaeggi gave the closing remarks.
