Two Elroy men have been charged for an incident that took place in Elroy earlier this week. 21-year-old Dustin T. Diorio and 21-year-old Vincent K. E. Newman Jr. have been charged with burglary and committing battery on a person, burglary of a building or dwelling, and disorderly conduct. Law enforcement officials were dispatched to a location at South Main Street on Monday morning for a break-in. Upon arrival, the subjects fled the scene, but were later located two blocks north of the residence and were apprehended. A search revealed credit cards belonging to one of the two victims. The two victims also gave statements that both Diorio and Newman assaulted one of the victims. According to the criminal complaint, upon questioning, the men did not dispute any of the claims from the victims. Diorio and Newman were arrested and transported to the Juneau County Jail. At a bond hearing on Tuesday afternoon, both subjects were issued a $5,000 signature bond and were ordered to have no contact with the victims or each other. An initial court appearance for both men has been set for January 21st at 9am.
