Third District Congressman Ron Kind and Minnesota Congressman Erik Paulson introduced a bill that would repeal the medical device tax in the Affordable Care Act. The Protect Medical Innovation Act would repeal the 2.3% excise tax that is applied to the sale of medical device products. Kind said, “This bipartisan, commonsense legislation will ensure patients have access to life saving technologies and promote innovation by reducing the burden on tight R&D budgets.” The bill was passed in the House of Representatives several times before but it never advanced past the U.S. Senate. Kind says this is a way to increase economic competitiveness globally and create good-paying jobs in an emerging industry.
