The BloodCenter of Wisconsin is partnering with Mount Olympus Waterpark to offer a special gift of thanks to Mauston-area blood donors April 13th. Attempting donors at the Mile Bluff Medical Center blood drive will receive a Mount Olympus admission pass for up to four people that can be used May 23 through July 2, 2015. The Mile Bluff Medical Center blood drive will be held Monday, April 13th from 9 to 2 in the hospital’s Community Room. The BloodCenter of Wisconsin is the sole provider of blood products to Mile Bluff Medical Center. Anyone 16 or older who is in general good health and meets eligibility requirements is encouraged to donate blood. Appointments are preferred, but walk-in donors are also welcome.
Requirements for being a blood donor:
• Must be 17 years or older (16-year-olds can donate with parental consent)
• Must weigh at least 110 pounds
• Should be free of any cold, flu or allergy symptoms the day of donation
• Must not have had hepatitis after age 11
• Should not have any risk factors associated with HIV or AIDS
• Must know the names and doses of all current medications (most prescriptions are acceptable)
Tips to remember the day you donate:
• Bring along a photo ID such as a driver’s license.
• Drink plenty of fluids prior to and following your donation.
• Avoid strenuous physical exercise until the day following your donation.
• Eat a nutritious meal prior to and following donating.
