A teenager is dead after a two vehicle accident in the Town of Kickapoo in Vernon County Sunday morning. Authorities said in a release that 19-year-old Preston D. Nelson of rural Soldier’s Grove was operating a pickup eastbound on US Highway 14 when he lost control. Sheriff John Spears said his truck crossed the center line, made contact with another eastbound vehicle, entered the left ditch and rolled multiple times. Nelson was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Nelson had three passengers at the time of the crash. 18-year-old Steven R. Young of rural Chaseburg was extricated from the truck and transported by Med Link Air to Gundersen Health System in LaCrosse with serious injuries. 19-year-old Taylor A. VanVoorhis of LaCrosse was transported to Vernon Memorial Hospital and then transferred to Gundersen Health System in LaCrosse with serious injuries. 18-year-old Jacob W. Kent of Nekoosa was transported by private vehicle to Vernon Memorial Hospital with non life-threatening injuries and was released. None of the occupants were believed to have been wearing a seatbelt. Spears’ said no one was injured in the second vehicle involved in the accident, and that the crash remains under investigation. This crash marks the second 2015 traffic fatality in Vernon County.
