The Mauston Room Tax Committee is hosting a free workshop to make sure your business and its location show up on Google Maps.

The workshop is open to the public and will be offered in two sessions, Wednesday, April 22, 2-4 p.m. and a duplicate session on Thursday, April 23, 9-11 a.m., at City Hall, 303 Mansion St., Mauston. Each session can accommodate up to 40 people.

Digital marketing expert Mary Jane Sanchez, owner of Dynamismo in Waukesha, and assistants will provide one-on-one tutoring as they walk participants through creating a digital presence for their business on Google Maps, a key tool used by customers to find the goods and services they are seeking.

Participants should bring:
• a Wi-Fi enabled device, such as their laptop, tablet or smartphone (bigger screens are better);
• three images (their business logo, business interior and exterior shots); and
• a brief snippet about their business that includes links to their website, Facebook page, Twitter and any other social media they are active in.

“This is a hands-on workshop where business owners will leave the sessions knowing they are fully tapped into the power of Google Maps,” says Mary Hudack, Executive Director of the Greater Mauston Area Chamber of Commerce. “This workshop and others that will be announced soon are part of a new, dynamic strategy that our Room Tax Committee is taking to grow tourism in our area.”

Sanchez is part of a team, led by Lynn Rasmussen of Social Energizer of Appleton that has contracted with the Room Tax Committee to develop a new tourism brand and marketing campaign. Community outreach programs such as this workshop are part of that campaign, which will include new creative design, digital and social media marketing, public relations and targeted advertising. Details will be announced in coming weeks.

“Google Maps is a key way customers locate where they buy services and goods,” says Rasmussen. “This is especially true for tourists. We want to make sure that the Mauston area businesses are taking full advantage of their digital assets, especially on powerful and free programs like Google Maps.”

To register for one of the sessions, contact Hudack at chamber@mauston.com or (608) 847-4142.
