Area residents can learn the importance of having an advance directive during the airing of an award-winning movie April 28 in Tomah.
Tomah Memorial Hospice Touch and Palliative Care are coordinating a free showing of the film: “Consider the Conversation” at 5:30 pm in the lower level classrooms at Tomah Memorial Hospital.
Hospice social worker Kari Arch says the film is a must see for anyone currently caring for family members or facing the possibility of caring for someone in the future.
Advance Directives are legal documents that are completed by adults in advance of an illness or accident that would leave the person unable to express their wishes.
The film aired more than 600 times on over 175 Public Broadcasting Service stations in 33 states and won 11 major awards. It was also a catalyst for a statewide initiative in 2012 by the Wisconsin Medical Society to make advance care planning a standard part of patient care.
Arch said following the film there will be a panel discussion focusing on the different types of advance directives along with information on how to complete one.
