39-year old Darin Skiff sits along side defense attorney Mark Lawton in a Juneau County courtroom Tuesday afternoon.

A Mauston man waived his right to a preliminary hearing and Judge Paul Curran bound 39-year old Darrin Skiff over for trial.  Skiff was also inside a Juneau County Courtroom Tuesday afternoon requesting a bond modification.  He’s currently in jail on a $10,000 cash bond on charges of taking and driving a vehicle without the owner’s consent as a result of an incident last month when he allegedly took a car that was running parked outside a downtown Mauston bar and crashed it into a parked vehicle.  Defense attorney Mark Lawton requested the cash bond be modified to a signature bond and the court require the defendant to check in with the jail daily.  Skiff has been incarcerated for a month.  Juneau County District Attorney Mike Solovey asked the bond remain the same.  He said Skiff has also been charged in two other cases.    He has been charged with 1st degree reckless homicide and delivery of cocaine.   Judge Curran said,  ”because of the need to protect the community and because Skiff faces serious prison time on the felony charges that he may abscond, the bond modification request has been denied.  I’ll keep bail at $10,000 cash as Judge John Roemer had set previously.”
