Vernon County law enforcement has announced the results of its county-wide multi-jurisdictional task force traffic safety and high visibility enforcement effort. Officers from the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, Viroqua Police Department, Hillsboro Police Department, La Farge Police Department and the Readstown Police Department made 152 traffic stops during the High Visibility Enforcement effort from July 28th thru July 31st. During the enforcement effort to reduce speeding violations, seatbelt violations, inattentive driving and distracted driving, officers issued 80 citations during traffic stops for speeding, no insurance, seatbelt, and other violations. The total amount of enforcement hours was 16 hours per agency. In a joint release, the agencies said:
“Our goal is to reduce speed related crashes through voluntary compliance of area motorists. Though our primary efforts will be directed toward speeding, we are enforcing all traffic laws to include seatbelts, distracted driving, and impaired driving. Through our traffic safety enforcement and education efforts, we are striving to reduce the number of preventable traffic deaths to zero in Wisconsin.”
