There was a one vehicle accident in the Town of Whitestown on Highway 131 at the intersection with Downing Road. Vernon County Sheriff John Spears said shortly before or after midnight on Monday morning, 39-year-old Joshua Czap of La Farge, was driving northbound on State Highway 131 when he crossed the highway, proceeded through a wide ditch, and struck a hillside. Spears said it is believed he was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident, and the airbag was deployed. Despite receiving serious injuries, Czap left the scene and went to a residence. Sometime later, he was transported by private vehicle to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hillsboro. He was then flown to Gunderson Health System in LaCrosse. The Sheriff’s Office was notified of the accident at 1:14am by a resident living on Downing Road that they could see a vehicle with headlights on in the ditch. St.Joseph’s Hospital notified the Sheriff’s Office that Czap just came into their emergency room with injuries sustained in the accident. The accident remains under investigation.
