A New Lisbon man was sentenced Friday for one count of first degree sexual assault of a child. Juneau County Judge John Roemer sentenced 34-year-old Amos Day, formerly of rural Mauston, to 20 years in the prison system, 11 years in state prison and nine years extended supervision. Day pleaded guilty in April to the one charge. Charges of two counts first degree sexual assault of a child under the age of 13, two counts of causing a child under the age of 13 to view/listen to a sex act; one count of exposing a child to harmful material; and three counts of exposing genitals to a child were read-in to sentencing. Another count of first degree sexual assault of a child under the age of 12 had been dismissed on the prosecutor’s motion. As part of the sentencing, Day is to have no contact with anyone under the age of 18 unless approved by agent or treatment provider or the victim and the family. In addition, he is to register as a sex offender.

According to the criminal complaint, the alleged contact to have occurred from September 2013 and October 2014 in the Town of Kildare. The complaint also says that initially, Day denied all accusations, however based on the interview with the child he was placed under arrest and that a short time later Day waived his rights and admitted to the incidents reported by the child. He then reportedly provided detailed accounts of the sexual contact.
