Michael Delong along with defense attorney Roger Klopp

A Mauston man found hiding in a tree stand after allegedly burglarizing the Alliant Energy substation east of Mauston earlier this year was sentenced Thursday.  Juneau County Judge John Roemer accepted the plea agreement and sentenced 30-year old Michael Delong to 180-days in the County jail with 96-days credit for time already served.  Delong must also pay restitution of $928.50 to Alliant for the damage to the chain link fence.  The spools of electrical wire were recovered a short distance from the substation yard.  Delong had plead no contest to the misdemeanor theft charge and the criminal damage to property charge was dismissed.  Last month, Judge Roemer dismissed the burglary and possession of burglarious tools felony charges on defense’s motion.  In February 2013, two Juneau County deputies had responded to an alarm at the Alliant Energy Substation and followed the fresh footprints in the snow and found Delong hiding in a deer stand.
