A Wisconsin Rapids man was rescued from the Mississippi River north of Stoddard on Sunday. Vernon County Sheriff John Spears said a motorist had called the Sheriff’s Office who had seen someone in the water. 58-year-old Anthony Culbert was ice fishing when he fell through the water attempting to retrieve an ice fishing shanty that had blown away. The Stoddard Fire Department sent two firefighters onto the ice. Culbert had managed to get out of the water and was on the ice at that time. The firefighters went out and brought him back to shore on their sled. Culbert was treated at the scene.
