Necedah Company reports Stolen Semi-truck and Trailer

Coast to Coast Transporters of Necedah has reported a stolen semi-truck and trailer.  The truck and trailer was leased to a Kelton Ivey and he is refusing to return the vehicle.  Ivey’s last known address is in Dunwoody Park, Georgia where the vehicle is believed to be at this time, however Ivey apparently has removed the GPS tracking device on the vehicle.  Juneau County authorities have shared the investigation report with and have asked for the Dunwoody Police Department’s assistance.

Dale Schweitzer, age 41 of New Lisbon, was arrested last Thursday, January 25th after a taxi ride from Wisconsin Dells.  The taxi picked him up at the Malibu Inn in the Dells and drove him to a residence on StoneGate Drive in the town of Germantown.  When he said he had to go inside to get the money for the fare, he disappeared behind the house leaving a duffel bag in the taxi.   He was found a short while later at his mother’s residence on 15th Street.   His mother has a restraining order against him and he was not to be at her residence.  He was arrested and received six charges including; Fraud on a Taxicab, Violating a Domestic Abuse Injunction, and Bail Jumping.

Feds Say Wilderness Resort Dorm Fire Was Arson

(Delton, WI)  —  Investigators with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms have determined last month’s fire at the Wilderness Resort in Delton was arson.  The fire destroyed a dormitory which was being built to house foreign students working through the J-One visa program.  More than three-thousand students in that program work at Dells-area tourist attractions each year.  There were no injuries, but the building was a total loss — at an estimated cost of five-million dollars.

(Lake Delton, WI)  —  Sauk County authorities say a Lake Delton firefighter was working at the scene of a fatal accident on Interstate 90-94 when he was hit by a passing car.  Joe Sabol, age 39,  is in stable condition at UW Hospital in Madison.  A 54-year-old Montello woman died in the original crash when her car spun out of control while she was entering the interstate at about 8:00 a-m Saturday.  Sabol was standing next to a fire truck when another driver lost control.

Vernon County Fatal Truck Crash

Sheriff John B. Spears reports a single vehicle accident resulting in a fatality on January 31st 2018. The accident occurred at approximately 11:30pm on County Road K near Hamburg Ridge Road in the Town of Hamburg.

Bradley L. Sisbach age 40 of rural Viroqua, WI was operating a pickup truck eastbound on County Road K. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. The vehicle came to rest against the tree and Bradley Sisbach was later pronounced dead by the Vernon County Coroner’s Office.

Sisbach was not wearing his seatbelt when the crash occurred. This marks Vernon County’s 1st motor vehicle fatality in 2018.

Assisting the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office was the Coon Valley Fire and First Responders, Tri-State Ambulance, and the Vernon County Coroner’s Office.

The accident remains under investigation by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office and the Vernon County Coroner’s Office.


Two-vehicle Wreck Results in One Fatality

Sheriff John B. Spears reports a two vehicle accident that resulted in one fatality, on February 3rd 2018 at approximately 5:20pm. The accident occurred on State Highway 27 near Melby Dr. just north of Westby, WI in the Town of Christiana.

Chase N. Galle age 22 from Brandon, WI was operating a vehicle southbound on State Highway 27 when he lost control on snow covered roads and crossed the centerline. Galle struck a northbound vehicle operated by Duane T. Skarda age 52 of Pleasant Prairie, WI. Both vehicles came to rest in the northbound lane.

Galle was initially unconscious with serious injuries as a result of the accident and passed away during the transport to Gundersen Health System by Tri-State Ambulance. Skarda was stable but complaining of chest pain and was transported to Gundersen Health System as well and later released. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. Airbags were deployed in the Skarda vehicle.

State Highway 27 was closed in both directions for approximately two hours. This marks Vernon County’s 2nd fatal motor vehicle accident in 2018.

Assisting in the accident was the Wisconsin State Patrol, Westby Police Department, Westby Fire Department, Tri-State Ambulance, and the Vernon County Coroner’s Office.

The accident remains under investigations.

Burglary in Lyndon Township

A burglary was reported at a residence on Timm Road in Lyndon Township on January 22nd.  The homeowner states that a window was left open and many valuables were taken including jewelry and cash.  The total value of all that was stolen added up to approximately $2,400.

New Lisbon Woman Caught Selling Daughters Prescriptions

Jennifer Lawrence age 43 of New Lisbon was charged with one count of delivery of non-narcotics.  She allegedly has been selling her daughter’s prescription drugs to another person monthly for over the past 5 years.

The Juneau County Sheriff’s Office has received concerns about convicted sex offender Gerald Turner, age 68, thinking he has been release into the community.  The Sheriff confirms that Turner has NOT been released into the community, rather he is being detained at Sand Ridge Secure Treatment Center in Mauston.

New Lisbon Man Charged with Criminal Hit and Run

Daniel Dahlberg, age 19 of New Lisbon, was cited with criminal Hit and Run for an incident that occurred on February 2nd at around 7:30pm.  Dahlberg was allegedly driving without headlights when he struck another vehicle, then backed up and fled the scene.  The crash occurred on Alan Road in the City of New Lisbon.  The front license plate registered to a ’97 Green Chevy Blazer and owned by Daniel Dahlberg was found at the scene.  A witness in a neighboring apartment building confirmed the crash victim’s story.
The Sheriff’s Department finally was able to contact Dahlberg over the phone several days later.  On that call, Dahlberg was said to be angry and irritated, telling the Deputy he sold the vehicle to someone he did not know or could prove, and mistakenly left the plates on it even though he had recently registered it.  Dahlberg eventually hung up on the Deputy.  Along with the Criminal Hit and Run charge, Dahlberg received five additional citations including Operating After Suspension.

Heroin Arrest/Escape/Pursuit/Canine Arrest

On February 12th, 2018, at approximately 10:00 p.m. members of the Adams and Marquette County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle being operated by Levi R Hedding (27) of Coloma. The stop occurred in the 2800 block of STH 13 in Adams County. Hedding had active warrants for his arrest and was suspected of trafficking heroin to the area. Hedding initially lied to deputies about his name and attempted to flee on foot before being taken into custody.
While deputies were processing evidence at the scene Hedding escaped through the rear window of an Adams County squad car. Hedding then entered a Marquette County squad and fled the scene. An 18 mile pursuit ensued involving several members of law enforcement from surrounding areas/agencies. Hedding’s stolen squad eventually entered a ditch striking a tree on CTH EE near 2nd Ave in Adams County. Hedding again attempted to flee on foot. Hedding was apprehended by a Marquette County canine and deputies from both agencies. Hedding was transported to Moundview Hospital for injuries received from the canine arrest. Hedding is currently in custody.
The ensuing investigation resulted in the following charges being requested with the Adams County District Attorney’s Office: Possession of Heroin with Intent to Deliver, Escape, Operate Vehicle Without Owner’s Consent, Operating with a Restricted Controlled Substance, Reckless Driving, Obstructing/Resisting an Officer, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Operate Without a Valid Driver’s License, Felony Fleeing and Felony Bail Jumping.
The Adams County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Central Wisconsin Drug Task Force, Wisconsin State Patrol, City of Adams Police Department and the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office.
No further information is being released at this time.


3rd Fire In 2 Months At Wisconsin Dells Destroys Building

(Lake Delton, WI)  —  A maintenance building at the Mount Olympus theme park in Lake Delton has been destroyed by an early morning fire.  It’s the third fire at a Wisconsin Dells-area attraction since December.  Fire crews were called to the scene shortly before 4:00 A-M.  They managed to get the fire in the metal building under control in about an hour.  No preliminary damage estimate has been released, but the building was destroyed and it reportedly contained several vehicles, maintenance equipment and utility machines.  Operations at the Mount Olympus resort, water park and theme park have not been disrupted.

Congressional Candidate Wanted In New York City For Grand Larceny

(La Crosse, WI)  —  A Democrat challenging incumbent Wisconsin Congressman Ron Kind has a legal matter she has to attend to first.  Thirty-six-year-old Juliet Germanotta of La Crosse has agreed to waive extradition to New York so she can face a grand larceny charge.  An arrest warrant has been issued in her name.  Authorities say she bought a ring from a jewelry store last September for 48-hundred dollars, then returned a fake for a refund.  Germanotta has vowed to focus on rights for L-G-B-T-Q people and health care for patients with pre-existing conditions if elected.  She says a California felony conviction will be expunged.

Authorities Investigate 3 Fake School Threats

Fitchburg Police took a 14-year-old boy into custody Friday after he apparently called the wrong number while threatening to “shoot up” a school. The boy’s name hasn’t been released. Police quickly determined the threat wasn’t credible, but it represented the third separate school threat in a 24-hour period in southern Wisconsin. Other calls were in Madison and Orfordville and they all seemed to be in response to the Florida shooting. The Fitchburg case involved a call to a number in Juneau County, threatening an attack on a school which doesn’t exist. The teenage suspect was taken to the Dane County Juvenile Reception Center.

Hospice Touch Offers Upcoming Support Group

Hospice Touch of Tomah Memorial Hospital is offering a special support group to help people who have lost a friend or a loved one deal with grief.
Hospice Spiritual Care and Bereavement Coordinator Debbie Warthan says the program not only helps people now but into the future.
Warthan said the six week Grief Support program will be held Tuesdays beginning March 13 through April 17 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. or 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Hospice offices at 601 Straw Street in Tomah.
Participants can choose either the morning or the afternoon times.
She said the series will look at defining grief, exploring feelings of loss, while understanding the needs of those who grieve.
There is no charge for the program but Warthan said participants should register by calling Hospice Touch at 374-0250 by March 1st.

Mauston man faces Bail Jumping charges in two nearby Counties

Darien Ruf, age 26 of Mauston was arrested last Wednesday evening in the Festival Foods parking lot after sheriff’s deputies recognized him driving his vehicle knowing that his driver’s license was revoked.  He was also revving his engine with a loud exhaust and exceeding the speed limit.  Ruf was charged with operating while revoked and to bail jumping charges due to the fact he was out on bail in both LaCrosse and Sauk counties for other offenses that restricted him to absolute sobriety.  Ruf blew a point .045 when he was booked into the jail.
