The Elroy Police Department, Juneau County Sheriff’s Office, Mauston Police Department and the New Lisbon Police Department are working collaboratively with news media in efforts to combat impaired driving through high-visibility enforcement combined with a comprehensive public- education/awareness campaign.
The above agencies will be conducting Highly Visible Enforcement saturation patrols on December 19, 2014 from 7 PM to 3 AM. Juneau County residents and visitors will see an increase in Law Enforcement visibility during these times.
The goal is not to arrest more drunken drivers. The goal is to deter drunken driving, so that we can reach our ultimate goal of zero preventable traffic deaths.
In the past 10 years, fatalities from alcohol-related crashes dropped from 348 in 2003 to 185 in 2013, which is a 47 percent reduction.
Injuries from alcohol-related crashes dropped from 6,445 in 2003 to 2,660 in 2013, which is a 59 percent reduction.
Although we’re making progress in preventing drunken driving, too many people are still being killed or injured because of the irresponsible decision to drive while impaired.
It is the goal of this collaborative effort to prevent traffic deaths and injuries involving drunken driving.
